Biology has transformed from a program with a small enrollment into a Department with an enrollment of 170 students. A considerable research program has been developed with support provided by the National Science Foundation, The National Institutes of Health, the Binational Science Foundation, the National Park Service, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the Minority Academic Careers Program.
Areas of research of biology faculty members are neural networks, neuroimmunology, waves and diffusion of ions in the brain, population modeling of the Cape Seaside sparrow, spatiotemporal dynamics of wading birds in Everglades National Park.
Biology faculty collaborate with other departments such as Mathematics and Chemistry. This provides our students with many more opportunities to participate in research.
