Dr. Simon Garnier, a faculty member in the Federated Department of Biological Sciences at NJIT, was recently quoted in a New York Times article discussing fictional portrayals of collective behavior. Dr. Garnier, who heads the Swarm Lab at NJIT, primarily researches the emergence of intelligent collective behaviors in groups of social animals. The Swarm Lab examines how information is exchanged and transformed during interactions between the members of a group, and how this can lead to the emergence of "intelligent" group behaviors.
